Lydia
Mays Washington currently serves as a
Director in Practice Leadership at AHIMA
where she provides industry analysis and
advocacy on current and emerging issues that
impact health information management through
the advancement and use of health
information management standards and best
practices. With a focus on electronic health
records (EHRs), she represents AHIMA in a
number of industry and standards groups
including The Joint Commission, Public
Health Data Standards Consortium, AMA’s
Physician Consortium on Performance
Improvement and HL-7 workgroups.
Lydia holds an M. S. degree in Health
Informatics from the University of Texas
Health Science Center-Houston and is
certified as a Registered Health Information
Administrator (RHIA) and a Certified
Professional in Health Care Information
Management and Systems (CPHIMS). She is a
frequent speaker and has published numerous
articles and practice briefs in the Journal
of AHIMA.
